Part B - Medical Insurance - Most people pay monthly for Part B.
Doctors, services, outpatient hospital care, and some other medical services that Part A does not cover, such as the services of physical and occupational therapists, and some home health care. Part B helps pay for these covered services and supplies when they are medically necessary.
Medicare beneficiaries pay a monthly part B premium. The monthly Part B premium is $99.90 for 2012 with incomes under $85,000 (single) and $170,000 (married) for people enrolling in Medicare for the first time in 2011. In some cases this amount may be higher under certain conditions if you did not enroll in Part B when you first became eligible.
Enrolling in part B depends on several factors that our Medicare Professionals can assist you with. You can sign up for Part B three months before your turn 65, the month you are 65 an three months after you turned 65 (7 months in total). You can enroll by calling the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213, on line at ssa.gov or by going to your local Social Security Office.
If you enroll in Part B, the premium in most situations is deducted from your monthly Social Security, Railroad Retirement, or Civil Service Retirement payment. If you do not receive the above payments, Social Security will send you a quarterly bill. If you get benefits from the Railroad Retirement Board, call your local RRB office or 1-800-808-0772.
